SEL Topics: Self and Social Awareness, Effective Communication, Responsible Decision Making, and Self Regulation
Introducing “Size of the Problem” at the elementary level is a great way to help students problem solve independently and strengthen social skills. As students learn to identify emotions in themselves and others, it is a good idea to start the conversation about how we respond to situations when we are upset.
This unit is filled with anchor sheets, work sheets and activities to support introducing "Size of Problem" to your classroom. Other topics covered are matching the size of problem to related emotions, triggers, volcano and iceberg analogies, calming and problem solving strategies, and "what we can can and can't control".
