Read Alouds are a great way to embed social and emotional learning into your teaching.
Teasing can be fun and playful, but can also be hurtful and targeted. "If a teaser's intent is to hurt, humiliate, ridicule or demean, it crosses the line into taunting, a form of psychological bullying." (Trudy Ludwig)
The book “Just Kidding”, by Trudy Ludwig, explores teasing and the idea that no joke or teasing is ever funny when it is intentionally made at the expense of others. When words or actions toward another are embarrassing, mean, or hurtful, they are no joke and are never okay.
This companion unit consists of discussion questions, reading comprehension pages, a reading comprehension mini-assessment, a "teasing dos and don'ts" anchor chart, a fill-in-the-blanks, and a vocabulary-building word search with extension activities.
